Tijdens het beoefenen van één van slechte gewoonten, namelijk om snel even iets op te zoeken over een boek dat weliswaar in mijn kast staat maar dat mijn leesgestoelte nog niet bereikt heeft, omdat ik bepaalde info snel nodig heb om te weten of het de moeite is een bepaald vermoeden verder uit te spitten of niet (o joy, lezen voor werk!), kwam ik David Livingstones review van Thomas Pynchons Mason & Dixon tegen. Het is een mooie review, denk ik, met onder meer dit naar meer smakend citaat:

O.a. omdat de beste boeken landmeters als hoofdpersonage hebben, en - zeker even belangrijk - een goede vriend me het met alle macht aanprees, ligt M&D voor deze zomer klaar.

Groot was mijn nieuwsgierigheid, na het doornemen van de review, ook de kommentaren erop te lezen - een link beloofde me namelijk twee. en wat voor twee! Een zekere Stanley Lewendon vraagt in een pop-up het volgende:
